"I was slightly sick with a cold the week before the Sweepstakes, but I was feeling fine on Friday and when the contest started. I ended up pretty much losing my voice in hour 3 or 4 of the contest, but I kept going, hoping it would improve as it sometimes has in the past. It just keep getting worse. I quit at 6.5 hours into the contest and tried again later, but it was not getting any better. Those few of you I called on Sunday know how bad I sounded. I found that I really like this contest and even after quiting last night I really wanted to work guys today. If I could have I would still be in the chair at the end even if I was 1000 contacts behind." - K5TR

"I missed most of the contest due to travel to Boston. Too bad - Sweepstakes is fun!" - K3TD

"I did a half-hearted attempt at this - SSB is not my favorite mode (it ranks somewhere below pulling out all my fingernails), and I don't think I've ever done SS-SSB. I just noodled and tried for a sweep but even failed at that - missed MS...." - AA5BT (@ N5XU)

"This is the best score this station has ever made for Sweepstakes in either mode. Band conditions seemed very good for the weekend. We have a chance to set a new West Gulf multi-op record if our score holds up. KU5B and N5ZC came over and they did 99% of the operating and we (K5NA & K5DU) only had to fill in for them once in a while. Colin and Rich did a terrific job and they are both great operators." - K5NA

"I can't believe I couldn't catch KP4. I heard NP4Z once as he was running around, but I never got a KP4 in the log." - K5WA

"I was particularly encouraged by the number of 07 and 08 checks I received. A quick scan of my log shows over 20 of them. Nice to hear some new blood in the Sweepstakes. Reality also set in, as I received very few checks in the 50s. I will pass along that one fellow (late in the contest) responded to my exchange with: 'check 51 -- keep up the good work, you old codger' -- in jest, I hope... Well, life goes on." - W5RQ

"This was my worst Saturday performance in a long time and it just kind of demoralized me. There's literally no way to recover in this contest if you have a couple of bad hours on Saturday." - WM5R (@ W5KFT)
